Here is the good stuff

Here comes the good stuff.  First. before starting any work. you need to know basically
how the two different processes work. We only use laquer paint. other than small drops
of mixers to alter tints.   We use white laquer. use a good quality aerosol. shake can
vigorously to ensure a good mix that sprays evenly.  Clear is the most important use the
best that is available. Have a good set of small artists paint brushes on hand and a pint
of acetone for cleaning. secret tip number 1  without exception there will always be
something that will require some touch up by brush. It might be a flaw inthe graphics. a
difference in the tone where two pieces join or just about anything. It is important that you
have a way to match any color needed. There is no way to buy any colors that are even
remotely close. I have spent so much time over the years in finding a way to easily make
any color without investing a fortune in tints. So here is the secret. White laquer paint and
tattoo ink. Tattoo ink mixes perfectly with the laquer. It is highly concentrated so just a small
drop will tint a lot of paint. Get it on ebay item number 111906341317  you get 54 colors for
about 22 dollars. With these you can match just about any color. When applied it is semi
transparent the first coat which makes it blend in really well.  While there you should also
get a bunch of plastic mixing caps and a stand to hold them for only a few more dollars.
This is something you an use on so many projects you will be so glad you know about it.
I get the white laquer out of the spray can by spraying it into a small medicine cup as I
need it.  If it sets up while im using it I mix in a little acetone. You should play around with
the stuff for a bit to see how it works. Back to the graphics.  The graphics are printed with
a laser printer.  Inkjet printers would work but the printing does not hold up for long. Laser
printing is not ink. it is actually a very fine plastic that is applied under high temperature that
bonds it to whatever it is being put on. Up to this point my two processes are the same,
the easy way and the fastest way is to print the graphics onto a laquer based substrate
commonly know as decal paper. There are many different types and qualities so Ill tell you
about them later. The other way is to print onto a gel based paper that has nothing but the gel
which dissolves in water. After printing you run the gel paper through a hot laminator with a
piece of mylar on top of it. The print transfers to the mylar when put in water which leaves the
print intact. Now the trick is to transfer the print from the mylar to the object that needs the print.
This requires a special glue. spray glue that dissolves in alcohol. You take the printed mylar
after the water dries from it and spray just a tiny bit of the glue on the side with the print the
print is reversed on that side so glue is going on its back, Now you position the print where
you want it and rub the mylar hard.  If you have ever used scratch of letters. same principal
After rubbing you peel off the mylar use some alcohol on a paper towel and wipe off the newly
printed object.  The print is directly on the object no substate and will not wear off.  This method
is best for making invisible graphic repairs without having to do a whole panel.  Ill show you
with pictures later on. Right now we will use decal paper.  Decal paper is great. it is laquer on
a gel base. The laser toner bonds to the laquer after printing a few light coats of clear is
sprayed over it.  The less clear the better because each coat adds thickness and makes it
harder to blend with no edges.  Cut excess material from the decal and put it in warm  water
for a few minutes.

below shows one half of the wall installed. the area was larger than my printer could print so I split it. Notice where it is split. is shows the least amount of the join line.

here I have trimmed any excess material and gone over areas that the colors did not match with my touch up paint mix  I also did all of the edges and onto the back side

Below is the opposite end. converting to the jail. Note the white laquer is full and smooth

Here is with the second half. The joint is along the edge of the shutter and the saloon door. makes the joint easy to hide

below I have installed the outside side wall

Below I have installed the front of the jail wall. use the spreader to remove excess water and any air bubbles. pat dry with a paper towel do not rub. Before soaking in water I pre cut the doorway and window

below is the side wall installed.  note the white paint showing on the edge where the tin bends

here is the edge after I toughed it up I used a few colors from the tattoo ink to make perfect matches. This will be clear coated later.
