THERE'S A LOT OF BRONCOS FOR SALE RIGHT NOW AND THEY ARE BRINGING IN THE HIGHEST PRICES THAT I'VE SEE IN A LONG TIME.  IF YOU ARE IN THE MARKET TO BUY ONE YOU WILL GAIN AN ADVANTAGE AND POSSIBLY SAVE SOME MONEY BY CHECKING OUT THESE TIPS.  GENERALLY SPEAKING I BROWSE EBAY EVERYDAY TO SEE WHAT NEW MOBO ITEMS COME UP FOR SALE AND IT'S NOT VERY OFTEN THAT I MISS ONE.  OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS I HAVE BOUGHT
WELL OVER 100 BRONCOS AND HAVE PROBABLY GOTTEN EVERY POSSIBLE PROBLEM THAT COULD ARISE.  THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM IS DENTS THAT THE SELLER FAILS TO DISCLOSE, WHETHER INTENTIONALLY OR NOT THESE DENTS AND DINGS CAN BECOME TIME CONSUMING AND OR EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. THIS FIRST PICTURE INDICATES THE AREAS THAT ALMOST ALWAYS ARE PUSHED IN UNLESS THE HORSE WAS ONLY USED INDOORS FOR A VERY SHORT TIME. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THERE ARE MANY SMALL CHILDREN THAT COULD ACHIEVE THE COORDINATION TO RIDE ONE OF THESE WITHOUT A FEW DAMAGING TIP OVERS.

THE NUMBER 1 REPRESENTS THE CONCHO OF THE BRIDAL, THIS IS ALMOST ALWAYS DAMAGED TO SOME DEGREE, IT IS IN THE MEDIUM RANGE OF DIFFICULTY TO REMOVE BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION.  NUMBER 2 IS THE SHOULDER AREA OF THE FRONT LEGS ALSO DIFFICULT TO REMOVE UNLESS YOU USE A SCREW IN TYPE BODY PULLER AND OR DON'T MIND ALOT OF BONDO.  THE BEST WAY IS TO SPLIT THE LEG OPEN AND WORK IT FROM THERE WITH HAMMER AND DOLLY. NUMBER 3 IS THE UPPER  PART OF THE REAR LEGS AND BASICALLY REPAIR THE SAME AS THE FRONTS.  NUMBER 4 IS THE FRONT LEG KNEES.  NUMBER 5, THE NOSE,  ANOTHER NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE DENT TO HAMMER OUT.   AND LAST AND PROBABLY LEAST IS THE TOP OF THE HEAD.  DEPENDING ON HOW SEVERE THESE DENTS ARE ANY ONE OF THEM CAN QUICKLY EAT UP ANY MONEY YOU MAY HAVE SAVED BY NOT SPENDING A LITTLE MORE ON A DENT FREE UNIT.  PICTURES ON EBAY CAN BE VERY DECEIVING SO LOOK VERY CLOSE AT THESE AREAS.  IF THERE IS ONLY ONE PICTURE ASK THE SELLER TO EMAIL YOU A COMPLETE SET AND ASK SPECIFICALLY ABOUT DENTS IN THESE AREAS.  THE NEXT PICTURE IS OF A CRACK IN THE METAL  AT THE FRONT CHEST CAVITY , ABOUT 1 IN 10 BRONCOS WILL HAVE THIS IN THE FRONT OR AT THE REAR, SOMETIMES BOTH.  THESE ARE EASILY REPAIRED BY BRAZING OR GAS WELDING.

THIS NEXT PICTURE SHOWS AREAS THAT GET MINOR DENTS AND ARE EASILY REMOVED OUTLINED IN WHITE.  IF YOU COME ACROSS A DENT THAT IS IN THE GREEN OUTLINED AREA I ADVISE TO PASS ON IT UNLESS YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW DOES BODY WORK. THIS IS THE MOST DIFFICULT AREA DUE TO THE MANY LITTLE INDENTATIONS ETC.

IN THIS NEXT PICTURE WE HAVE THE HOOVES, ASK THE SELLER IF THERE IS ANY RUST HERE.  EVEN WHAT THEY CALL SURFACE RUST CAN TURN INTO A RUST OUT ONCE IT IS CLEANED AND THE HOOVES ARE A PRIME RUST OUT AREA.  GOOD RUST REPAIR IS EXPENSIVE.

OUTLINED IN GREEN ARE SOME MORE EASILY REPAIRED COMMON DENT AREAS.  ALWAYS CHECK TO SEE THAT THE LEGS DON'T BOW OUT  TOWARDS THE BOTTOM AND THAT THE HOOVES ARE IN LINE WITH EACH OTHER, NOT ONE FURTHER FORWARD THAN THE OTHER.

IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO CHECK THE HORSES POSTURE, HE SHOULD STAND STRAIGHT AND TALL. THE UPPER EDGES OF THE FRONT AND REAR LEGS SHOULD BE EVEN AND IF YOU RAN A STRAIGHT EDGE BETWEEN THEM IT SHOULD CROSS THE SADDLE ABOUT IN THE MIDDLE.  SEE THE BLACK LINE IN THE PICTURE.  IF IT CROSSES AT THE BLUE LINE, EXCESSIVE WEAR TO THE SUSPENSION PARTS MAY BE PRESENT BUT IT WILL STILL FUNCTION OK.  AT THE RED LINE YOU WILL PROBABLY NEED SPRING REPLACEMENT AND OR OTHER REPAIRS.

THE  NEXT ITEM IS PROBABLY THE BEST WAY TO JUDGE THE CONDITION OF A BRONCO.  THESE ARE THE WHEELS. Y REPRESENTS A GOOD WHEEL AND N IS A BAD WHEEL (ONLY APPLIES TO BRONCOS WITH STEERING).  SEBEL MADE THE TIRES TO LAST,  THEY ARE A RUBBER COMPOUND THAT IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE MATERIAL USED ON YOUR CAR TIRES.  IF THEY ARE WORN, YOU CAN BET THAT THERE ARE MANY MILES ON THE HORSE.  IN PICTURES YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR ROUNDED EDGES, THE MORE THEY ARE ROUNDED,
THE MORE WEAR THEY HAVE.  ON STEERABLE UNITS THE FRONT WHEELS WILL TAPER TO ONE SIDE, THE BIGGER THE TAPER, THE MORE WEAR.   WORN TIRES USUALLY MEAN WORN SUSPENSION PARTS.  MISSING WHEELS MAY MEAN MAJOR PROBLEMS.  IF A WHEEL IS MISSING IT WOULD MAKE ME WONDER,  THEY ARE  REASONABLY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE AND I CAN'T SEE SOMEONE DOING THAT WITHOUT A REASON.  CERTAINLY NO CHILD IS CAPABLE OF WHEEL REMOVAL.  IT MAY INDICATE BROKEN PARTS THAT HOLD THE WHEEL AXLE IN PLACE OR ANY OF THE RELATED PARTS.

IN CONCLUSION I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT ANY OF THE PROBLEMS MENTIONED HERE ARE REPAIRABLE AND MANY CAN BE REPAIRED BY THE NOVICE.  HOWEVER IT SHOULD BE KEPT IN MIND THAT IF YOU WANT A NICE AS IS UNIT TO DISPLAY IT MAY BE WISE TO GO THE EXTRA $50.00 - $100.00+ AND GET A UNIT THAT DOESN'T NEED ANYTHING.  RULE OF THUMB HERE IS IF THE PAINT HAS A GLOSS AND THE WHEELS AREN'T WORN YOU HAVE A WINNER.ANY FLAKING PAINT ON THE BODY EXTERIOR USUALLY MEANS LOTS OF SURFACE RUST AND EVEN MORE FLAKING ON THE UNDERSIDE

UPDATE 12/10/2002:   I HAVE RUN ACROSS SEVERAL ITEMS THIS PAST MONTH THAT HAVE HAD VERY EXCESSIVE SHIPPING CHARGES,   SO I WOULD RECOMEND GETTING A FIRM QUOTE ON THE RATES FROM THE SELLER SO YOU DON'T END UP PAYING MORE THAN YOU EXPECT.  ON AVERAGE A BRONCO SHOULD COST NO MORE THAN $35.00 ANYWHERE IN THE CONTINENTAL US,  IF THE SELLER IS CHARGING FOR OTHER RELATED COSTS, PACKING ETC., OR FARMING IT OUT TO  A PRO PACKING CO. THEN GET READY FOR HIGHER COSTS.  THE POINT HERE IS GET A PRICE BEFORE YOU COMMIT!!!
